FAQ’S

What can I expect from a treatment?

The initial consult will begin with a short health check, followed by a postural observation. If further assessment is required, special tests will be conducted. Following on from this, a tailored session will be carried out to suit your presenting complaint. Take home stretching or exercises may be given, honing in on your individual condition.

Subsequent treatments will include a patient progress consultation, and any required special testing.

How often should I have a treatment?

This is dependant on your presenting condition - the more long standing a problem, the longer the body may take to respond, therefore regular treatment may be of benefit. For stress management  and muscle tension, I generally advise once a month sessions.

If having Bowen Therapy, you may benefit from weekly treatments for 2-3 weeks. Depending on how you’re feeling these are then tapered to fortnightly, then monthly.

Bowen Therapy

Who developed Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy developed by Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916-1982) from Geelong, Victoria.

Can I have other treatments whilst having Bowen Therapy?

Other modalities such as chiropractic, physiotherapy, osteopathy, acupuncture and massage (including self massage) are best avoided if having weekly Bowen Treatments. Having other forms of manipulative therapy (up to 5 days before or after a Bowen treatment), may interfere with its effectiveness.

How does Bowen Therapy differ from other treatments?

Bowen Therapy differs from alternative manual disciplines due to its innately subtle and calming nature. Your body may continue to process and respond to treatment for up to 10 days following the session.

Why are the pauses essential?

If you throw a pebble into a pond, you see the ripples form, and you know that the ripples belong to that pebble. If you throw five pebbles into a pond at the same time, you cannot differentiate which ripple belongs to which pebble. The body needs time for the first ripples (sensations) to be processed, hence the wait time. In saying this, Bowen Therapy utilizes a “Less Is Best” principle, to avoid overloading the body.

What types of responses can be felt in a Bowen Therapy session?

You may experience sensations, such as a sense of warmth/coolness, tingling, heaviness/lightness and pulsing in parts of the body. Other sensations include feeling very relaxed or sleepy.  Some people don’t feel any immediate sensations, and that’s perfectly normal also.

What essential oils do you use?

Natural Tranquility uses 100% pure, mostly organic essential oils. The essential oils used undergo a thorough and extensive range of quality assurance procedures such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and physical testing to ensure they are always 100% pure and natural. I use oils from Essential Therapeutics & Sydney Essential Oil Company (SEOC). SEOC provide certification of the oil on purchase.

Candle Care & Safety

The first time you light your soy candle, allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides of the container (melt pool). This prevents tunnelling and an even burn to occur.

Always trim the wick to 7mm before lighting. This ensures a longer lasting candle, reduces soot and eliminates mushrooming of the wick.

Never leave a lit candle unattended.

Never move a lit candle.

Do not use if the glass is chipped or cracked.

Do not burn for longer than 4 hours

Keep the melt pool clean.

Avoid drafty areas or near fans/air conditioning.

Keep candles out of reach of children and animals.

Space candles apart to prevent uneven burning.

Place candle on a stable, heat resistant surface.

Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.

Allow candle to solidify before relighting.

Put your candle out carefully, using a candle snuffer (safest way) to prevent wax splattering.
